8 Things to know about the reality of BSPT

Ever been wondering kung "masahista" ba talaga tayo?

Most of the people, yan ang tawag sa atin kasi nga "Physical Therapist" ka diba? So akala ng marami, all we do is that massage thing. But, I will help you & guide you to what do we really do.

Quick Chat:
We don't do massage & we are not related with massage therapist(
mas·seuse)

  1. We are a professional healthcare workers who treats those patient who undergo surgeries & accidents.
(And it's more than that. Why? Dahil hindi lang tayo naka-focus on that area.)

We also treat pt.s' (patients) who have
    SCI (Spinal Cord Injuries),
CP (Cerebral Palsy, specifically for pedia pt's),
    Stroke pt.'s, (for geria pt.s')
    at marami pang iba.

Why? Because we just don't focus on a specific area, though we have an important subjects that is specifically for us, inaaral din natin ang inaaral ng nurses, medtechs & other branches of allied health professionals.
  2. MAHIRAP ANG COURSE NATIN!
Hindi ko na kayo bibiglain. But I want you to know that all allied health professional courses are hard. Why?
Dahil buhay ng tao ang inaaral natin, plus once the pt.'s were given to us, nakasalalay hindi lang ang lisensya natin kundi anf reputasyon ng ating pinagaralan.

First & foremost.

FOR THE BONES:(you must memorize the following)
      * landmarks
      * parts
    FOR THE MUSCLES:
      * OINA (Origin, Insertion, Nerve innervation, Action)
    FOR THE NERVES:
      * must memorize & able to explain the different plexus of the
          body

  3. We do treat inside the ICU (Intensive Care Unit)

And because lahat ng pt. inside the ICU is in constant stationary position, or less ang kanilang pag-galaw, we are needed by them.
    How come naman po?

We gave them exercises. We always check if they have bed sores,or other new existing diseases.

  4. Every end of school year, our school conduct Comprehension Test
    Para saan po?

Para makapasa ka sa next level. If you are a 1st year, you are only valid to be 2nd year if you've able to pass the required grade score of the test.

It's a test that contains your lesson. Kung ano yung pinag-aralan mo sa buong year, yun yung ie-exam mo. Pinagsama-sama sa isang test lahat ng subjects mo from 1st sem to 2nd sem.

TIP: Lahat ng important questions na sinasabi ng prof, you should always take note of it especially yung mga board sensitive Q's.
(always prepare a notebook that is specifically used for the questions na kailangan mong tandaan).

  5. We are not the same as what massage therapist are.

Yes we do massage pero not at all. May part lang. Maybe for a sem. lang namin yung inaral pero it's not all about the massage thing.
Kasama lang siya sa mga knowledge natin. Madami kasi sa tao ngayon kapag nalaman na PT ka, sasabihin "Pahilot nga" it's kinda' discriminative way para sa ating mga PT.

Massage therapist are only specific in the treatment of massage pero tayong mga PT, mas broad yung pinag-aaralan natin. We do treatments sa mga taong na-aksidente, nabalian ng buto, mga post-op pt.'s (after magundergo ng surgery), mobilization sa mga stroke pt. & many many many more.
And ofcourse kasama na sa pag-aaral natin ang BLS (Basic Life Support)

  6. We don't treat right away.

What we called Doctor of Physiotherapist.
We don't treat right away na parang magpa-pacheck up lang okay na.
Kasi lahat ng pt. natin, may plan. May mga ginagawa tayong plan for every pt. we treat kasi hindi naman lahat ng pasyente pare-parehas ng problema/ sakit kung bakit nagpapagamot sa rehabilitation center right?

Noong una, akala ko ganun pero nung nag-immersion ako, saka ko nalaman na ganun yung way of kanilang treatment.

  7. ANATOMY is the bread & butter of every pt student.

Yes & yes!
Same as with our course, we need to make sure that we have a good foundation para pagdating ng exams, quizzes, retdems, & internships magpa-pop up nalang lahat ng pinag-aralan natin.

No need to "Ma'am wait lang, review lang mabilis."

  8. Pressure is real

       How?
Kasi sa course natin, may retdems. Every demo may retdem na kasunod. Mostly it applies to application test pero minsan ginagawa din ng mga professors natin sa lectures. Pwedeng through recitation, isa isa kayong papasok sa room tapos limited lang yung time.

Always always remember that HAND HYGIENE is important in every retdem.

And and! The most exciting part is, super helpful siya pagdating sa future. Kasi kapag inuuna mong i-train yung sarili mo sa mahihirap na sitwasyon pagdating sa real life, parang medyo sanay ka na... hindi ka na mabibigla sa pressure kasi na-train mo yung sarili mo kung papaano yung approach, papaano yung diskarte na gagawin mo everytime na napre-pressure ka not just in your studies but also practically.
